Photographs 1978-1987

This series comprises 145 black & white and color photographs depicting various aspects of the life and work of the restructured Deaconess Community of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). These photographs date from 1978-1987, though several are undated. Photographs are generally candid shots or informal group photographs. There is one folder of photographs taken at the second Deaconess Assembly for the restructured community. This is a posed group portrait apparently taken by a professional-grade photographer. Photographs depict various aspects of community life including investitures, consecration anniversaries, the deaconess assembly, a prayer breakfast, and the St. Lucia festival. There are also images of the deaconess community board and community attendance at a meeting of the Diakonia of the Americas (DOTA). Photographs in folders marked "community life," include images of holidays at the motherhouse, birthdays observed, work life, chapel services, and meetings and gatherings. This series also include negatives for photographs from the DOTA meeting and the deaconess community board.
